East Boston Local Roots dispensary is on a steady path to begin serving cannabis to 21+ customers at their 1006 Bennington St. location. It seems only fitting that the former site of Tufts Tobacco should sell another smokable substance and feature a diverse team of current and former East Boston residents. This roster includes the man who ran Tufts Tobacco: James Schena, Jr., former City Councilor Mike P. Ross, Former Superintendent-in-Chief of the Boston Police Department Daniel Linksey, and many others.

The proposed facility would allow customers to make walk-in purchases, pre-order pick ups and even get cannabis delivered. The nearby Orient Hieghts/Barnes Ave. parking lot features over 400 spaces for those visiting East Boston Local Roots dispensary to park. Public transit commuters are within walking distance to the MBTA’s Blue Line station and bus stops. They plan to operate from 9:00am – 8:00pm daily.

East Boston Local Roots dispensary has already made initial filings with the city, conducted community outreach and held HCA negotiations. They plan to receive a provisional license by the CCC in September of 2019 and then begin construction on their facility. The company estimates they will open their doors to the public during April of 2020.
