Coming Soon: Diamond Shine’s Whately Dispensary has received a permit from town officials and approval from the CCC to sell adult-use cannabis at 85 State Road.

A woman owned and operated dispensary has hopes to join Franklin County’s growing cannabis marketplace. Diamond Shine’s Whately dispensary plans to sell raw and infused cannabis products out of their 85 State Road location. After reviewing the company’s plans for security, scent management, construction and branding the town of Whately’s Zoning Board of Appeals has granted the brand a special permit to sell marijuana to adults over the age of 21. Of course, the Cannabis Control Commission still has the final say in the matter.

Diamond Shine’s Whately dispensary is owned by Karen Gaston who grew up in Whately. The dispensary would be part of her existing CBD / hemp brand; Diamond Shine LLC. The company grows hemp plants in Connecticut and Massachusetts for CBD products in which they sell online and at a store in Granby Ct. While these plants are nearly identical to cannabis visually, they contain nearly THC, the naturally occurring chemical that produces a ‘high’.

We expect Granby’s experience cultivating and refining hemp to translate seamlessly into the cannabis realm. She told the Greenfield Recorder that her goal is vertical integration or “seed to sale.”  If their existing menu of CBD products is any indication, Diamond Shine’s Whately dispensary may carry loose bud flower, pre-rolled joints, capsules, tincture, topicals and 510 threaded vaporizer cartridges.  We hope they cultivate cannabis the same way they grow hemp – outside using natural sunlight.
